It's been a crazy year for all us! Some of spent a year teaching virtually. Some in person. Some both! We had to reinvent the way we taught music to keep it relevant yet safe during this pandemic. What things did you learn that you plan on keeping us after the pandemic goes away?
For me, I enjoyed doing online assessments. It was so nice to offer the students a chance to record themselves at home, in an environment that felt safe to them. I also enjoyed written tests that graded themselves! I have also explored the use of more pre-made videos in my class. I have learned how to make play along videos and videos of me reading stories. These have saved my voice during class this year. And, I am able to sit down for a few minutes while my past self takes over! How about you? With the new TN Academic Standards for Fine Arts, many of us are striving to find new ways to incorporate student choice into our class time. What is you favorite way to do this? Maybe you allow student to choose some of their program music. Maybe you have centers that allow for choice. Please use the comment section below to tell us your favorite ways to incorporate student choice in your music class.
